Corey Buttone
Assistant Coach
John Curtis Christian Schools River Ridge, LA
One of the most dominating high school teams in the last thirty years, John Curtis Christian High School has won 22 Louisiana State Championships. Much of the school's success is due to the implementation of the Veer Option in the mid-70's. This offense has been refined to make it easy to understand and execute for youth football players. In this video, Assistant Coach Corey Buttone explains how young players can be successful with this offense with the proper sequence of drills and the teaching of a vocabulary appropriate to the age group.
In this video you will learn from Coach Buttone:
* The importance of the correct drill sequence in learning the Veer Option.
* How to teach the vocabulary of the Veer Option to young players.
* How the Veer Option gives you the opportunity to control the off tackle hole.
* What the quarterback needs to do to make the proper reads; when to give, pitch or keep.
* How to execute three off tackle plays.
* What's needed to control the running game--both inside and outside.
* Implementing the pitch dimension within the Veer Option.
Coach Buttone:
"The Veer Option gives you the opportunity to control the off tackle hole as well as to control the entire running game. This can be taught to younger players with the proper drills and the appropriate vocabulary to their age group."
This is a lecture video and contains no game film or on field demonstrations.
2008-23 minutes.
